Bulbous Tip Correction Focusing on Skin Soft Tissue Envelope in Asian Rhinoplasty
نویسندگان
چکیده
A bulbous nasal tip is commonly seen in Asians; its correction represents a significant portion of Asian rhinoplasties. Bulbous tip correction in Caucasians mainly aims at reducing excess lower lateral cartilage and performing suture techniques on well-developed lower lateral cartilage [1-4]. Asians with a bulbous tip have a small, weak lower lateral cartilage and nasal septum [5,6]. Therefore, there is a limit to how much one can project the lower lateral cartilage and push against the nasal tip skin and soft tissue, the so-called SSTE (skin soft tissue envelope). In addition, there is a high incidence of nasal SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) thickening [1]. Thus, reshaping and repositioning the lower lateral cartilage are often masked by a thick nasal skin envelope [1,2,7,8]. In Asians, one must incorporate SSTE thickness when defining a bulbous tip. A simple surface evaluation of a broad or large nasal tip is insufficient to describe a bulbous tip. Classification using cartilage shape was previously introduced in the literatures [2,3,5], but such a definition provides a limited description of the actual appearance of the bulbous tip. Some authors have shown interest in SSTE and tried to explain “bulbous” as the unfavorable shadowing Da Arm Kim, Jae Yong Jeong, Sang Ha Oh

Clinical evaluation of safety and complications of the nasal tip defatting in rhinoplasty
Objective: Nasal tip refinement is an important objective in aesthetic rhinoplasty and one of the surgical options for soft tissue management in very thick bulbous skin and subcutaneous noses is tip defatting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and complications of tip defatting in thick skin and bulbous noses. Methods: Among 527 patients that underwent rhinoplasty in Modar...

D Daniel is to be congratulated for providing us with two very important studies on Middle Eastern rhinoplasty. This ethnic group represents a large proportion of rhinoplasty patients worldwide, so much so that popular media have recently dubbed Iran as the “nose job capital of the world.” Middle Eastern rhinoplasty patients demonstrate a complex array of nasal traits, which demands a thorough ...
متن کاملRhinoplasty for Middle Eastern noses.
BACKGROUND Rhinoplasty remains one of the most challenging operations, as exemplified in the Middle Eastern patient. The ill-defined, droopy tip, wide and high dorsum, and thick skin envelope mandate meticulous attention to preoperative evaluation and efficacious yet safe surgical maneuvers. The authors provide a systematic approach to evaluation and improvement of surgical outcomes in this pat...

Introduction: High prevalence of rhinoplasty in the community and lack of structured studies about its minor skin and soft tissue complications, point out the necessity of performing precise and comprehensive studies. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of minor cutaneous and soft tissue complications of rhinoplasty. Materials and Methods: 110 patients (30 Male and 80 Female, ...

In this study we evaluated sensory alteration in nasal tip and adjacent upper columella (territory of external nasal nerve) after open rhinoplasty. Two groups were randomly selected, each containing 25 patients with thick nasal skin; sensory testing was done preoperatively in all patients; in group one, subdermal soft tissue in tip and supratip areas was removed but in group two no soft tissue ...
